This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) introduces the core concepts, tools, and strategies needed to transform research results into real-world impact. Developed within the IAM4RE project, the course focuses on Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), knowledge valorisation, and the strategic role of standardisation in research and innovation.

The MOOC is designed as a flexible, self-paced learning experience, combining short video lectures, practical examples, quizzes, and reflection exercises. It is accessible to a broad audience, including students, early-career researchers, and research professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of how research outputs can be translated into societal, economic, or policy value.

Across eight modules, learners explore:

  • how to identify and manage intellectual assets beyond traditional IP,
  • how to select and combine valorisation pathways (e.g. licensing, collaboration, spin-offs, standardisation),
  • how market, regulatory and ecosystem dynamics influence research uptake,
  • and how European policy frameworks such as the EU Guiding Principles for Knowledge Valorisation translate into practice.

The course reflects a shift from linear “technology transfer” towards a broader, impact-oriented understanding of knowledge valorisation—where intellectual assets act as a bridge between research outputs and real-world application.

By completing this MOOC, learners will:

  • develop a structured understanding of how research results create impact,
  • gain practical orientation on managing intellectual assets and navigating openness vs. protection,
  • understand the role of standardisation as a pathway for adoption and interoperability,
  • and build a foundation for more advanced entrepreneurship and innovation activities.

The IAM4RE MOOC complements the IAM4RE Training Suite and forms part of a broader European capacity-building approach, supporting the integration of knowledge valorisation and standardisation practices across the research lifecycle.
